President Erdoğan said: “We are not after getting through the day; we are after building the future.”
In the sentence, Erdoğan set “getting through the day” against “building the future.” By saying “we are after,” he identified the second approach as the one they pursue.
The contrast in his words places a goal directed toward shaping the future ahead of one limited to the present day. The Turkish word “istikbal,” which Erdoğan used, means “future”; the central emphasis of the statement is therefore the choice to build that future.
