Kırklar Mosque is being rebuilt on Şekersu Plateau in the Çaykara district of Trabzon. The mosque stands at an altitude of 3,180 metres above sea level, on a rocky summit.
The summit where the mosque is located is surrounded by cliffs on three sides. The structure therefore sits on a steep, rocky point in the highland area.
A fire that broke out last November completely burned down Kırklar Mosque, reducing it to ashes. The rebuilding process has since begun, and work is continuing.
