Israeli rabbi Dov Lior issued a religious ruling seeking to legitimize the seizure of olives from land belonging to Palestinians. Lior claimed that the land belonged to Israel even if Palestinians had planted the trees growing on it.
On that basis, he sought to present taking olives from Palestinian-owned land as religiously permissible. The argument centers on the claim that the land belongs to Israel, regardless of who planted the olive trees.
Lior’s position uses the claim of Israeli ownership of land where Palestinians planted the trees as justification for seizing the olives grown there.
