Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk said ahead of the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby that the fixture was not a championship match, but was nevertheless very important. He described the match’s significance in his words: “It’s not a championship match, but it’s a very important match.”
Buruk stressed the importance of the derby without defining it as a match that would decide the championship. His remarks set out both points: the fixture does not have that championship-match status, but he still considers it a very important contest between the two teams.
Before the derby, Buruk had also said his team needed to remain calm and stay in the game rather than adapt to the opponent or other conditions. In his latest remark, he again emphasized the match’s importance while distinguishing it from a championship match.
