Under Syria’s new education curriculum, narratives about the country’s national values from the period of the ousted Baath regime have been removed. The change means that the former regime’s accounts on those values are no longer included in the curriculum.
A new map of Syria has also entered school textbooks. The map used in educational materials has therefore been revised, replacing the depiction associated with the period of the ousted regime.
The map change is also linked to the territorial claim concerning the Hatay-Iskenderun region. How that claim is addressed on the new map is one of the elements highlighted in connection with the revision.
